Cambodia: Koh Rong, Preah Sihanouk Province

    Hello everyone! Last time, I wrote my latest blog about places to visit in Vietnam (Temple of Literature "Van Mieu" in Hanoi). This will be my second blog about ASEAN attractions, and we're going to look at places that are less historical but more natural. Today we will go to Cambodia. As we all know, Cambodia is one of the most interesting and greatest historical sites in Southeast Asia. To my surprise, besides the Tonle Sap, there are also island, sea and beaches attractions in Cambodia. At first, I intended to choose Ta Prohm Temple as usual, but I decided to give this place to my friend instead. Because I have already written a story about Ta Prohm temple which is my favorite castle in Angkor Wat National Park. This time may I introduce you, "Koh Rong", Preah Sihanouk, Cambodia.


Location and Basic Information

    Koh Rong (Rong Island) is the second largest island in Cambodia. The word “Rong” assumed to be an old word meaning cave or tunnel, it can also refer to shelter too. Koh Rong is loocated in Koh Kon province, off the coast of Sihanoukville, at the southwest of Cambodia. It covers an area of ​​approximately 78 square kilometers, the coastline of the entire island is about 43 kilometers, and more than 61 kilometers are beaches. 

There are approximately 4 communities living on this island:
- Koh Tuich
- Doeum D'keuw
- Prek Svay 
- Sok San

In the past few years, Koh Rong has increased number of accommodation being built. Some of them are guesthouses and bungalow resorts run by foreigners (Chinese investors). At the cape of the island has been developed as the largest residential center and for transportation, there will be mainly using boat.



Short History

    The island was governed by the Navy authority for five miles around the island during 1979-2000. Since 2000, the Department of Fisheries is the principal government agency responsible for management of living aquatic resources. It cooperates with local authorities, communities, local fishers, and NGOs, to manage and conserve the resources.

6. Kayaking

10. Chill out or strolling at Long Set Beach
11. Watch the sunset
12. See fluorescent plankton at night

* note: I chose the "See fluorescent plankton at night" picture because I always wanted to see it, besides diving and kayaking.*





Before I go...

    This is the first time I have had the opportunity to write a natural attraction, and I have to admit that the geography information of Koh Rong is very complex and detailed, so I have brought only the important parts to share for you guys. If I had a chance to visit there, I would definitely write more about my experience and give some more details about it because  I'm always love the sea, but once in a while to have a chance to go. In the future, I believe that Koh Rong will become a more famous attraction and it will be a destination for people who want a private atmosphere vacation. Lastly, I hope you enjoy and...
